Some Artful Words of Wisdom:

"A man paints with his brains and not with his hands."
- Michelangelo (1475-1564)

"A picture is something which requires as much knavery, trickery, and deceit as the perpetration of a perfect crime."
- Edgar Douglas (1834-1917)

"Poeple don't realize what they have when they own a painting by me. Each picture is a phial with my blood. That is what has gone into it."
- Pablo Picasso (1881-1973)

Voting

Journal Entry: Fri Oct 3, 2008, 1:08 PM

2008 ELECTION :flagus:

While I'm waiting for any final Project Stacee submissions, I want to take this day to remind you...

If you live in the USA, please vote in the upcoming presidential election on Tuesday, November 4, 2008. In order to vote, you must be rigistered to vote. You can register and find your voting location here: [link]

2008 POLITICAL ART FEATURES :flagus:

That last piece of art is for an art exhibit; doesn't this election seem like some kind of surreal exhibition? Everything during an election year usually seems really intense to me, but this year feels particularly frantic. Maybe it's because of the economic crisis? Or maybe I just need to cut down on caffeine.

Also, ~DK1 reminded me of this AIGA link: Get Out the Vote 2008, which is a neat opportunity for artists to develop nonpartisan poster designs. In addition, for those of you that are into politics, I'm including the link to *DAPoliticalForum. Have fun!!

Please make your voice heard! If you don't vote...

Project Stacee - Thank You!!

Journal Entry: Thu Oct 2, 2008, 4:59 PM

PROJECT COMPLETE

Thank you to everyone that got involved with Project Stacee!! I am still waiting to hear from one artist that got into an accident this week. Their art will be added to the project this week if I hear from them. I thought it would be fair to give an artist with the use of only one arm an extra day. I hope no one minds. To make it more fair, I'll accept any new art submissions until midnight tomorrow, Friday, October 3.
Instructions for judges will be sent out this weekend. The three best artworks will be announced on Friday, October 17, 2008. Thanks again to everyone!

Stacee, Age 8

ABOUT STACEE

The above photo is a picture of Stacee. Stacee was only 8 years old when she and her mother tragically died on October 17, 1999. The photo was taken shortly before their deaths. Stacee would have been 17 years old this year.
A friend of mine recently contacted me with Stacee's story, and she told me that Stacee's grandmother only has this single photo of Stacee. As you can see, the image is badly damaged.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project is to invite artists to either restore the photo or use it as a reference to create art work in any medium for Stacee's grandmother and the rest of their family.
Stacee's grandmother has approved this project, and she's given me permission to allow project participants to use the photo. The photo is NOT a stock image! It is only to be used in the context of this project.

You may use this stamp to promote Project Stacee.
Thank you!

PROJECT OUTLINE
PROJECT DEADLINE: OCTOBER 1, 2008

Entries for this project will be viewed by Stacee's grandmother and judged by a panel of deviant artists. To encourage more participation in this project, the 3 best entries will be rewarded with prizes.
Project entries can be found in my favorites.

Fixing Stacee's Photo

  • ALL styles of art are welcome. For example, you may use photo manipulation, painting, sketching, vector drawing, etc.

  • Stacee's hair and eyes were brown.

  • Stacee's eyebrows have worn off and need to be touched up.

  • Her shirt used to be solid green and gold, but you may "dress" her any way you like.

  • The cute little lines in her smile (from the sides of her nose to her lips, and the lines by her eyes and eyelids) should be restored.

  • Water spots need to be removed.

  • Any background you want to add is fine, but please remember to make your project entries respectful and tasteful for Stacee's grandmother to view.

  • Project Rules

  • All entries must be uploaded to your gallery at deviantART in the correct category with a link to this contest in each entry's description. Also, if you use stock art in your work, please link back to where you found your resources. (FAQ #81: How can I make links to other deviants, deviations, or websites?)

  • Entries must be sent to `FantasyStock via NOTE no later than 11:59pm on October 1, 2008.

  • Each artist is invited to send up to 5 entries.

  • As a special thanks for your participation, 3 project entries will be selected by a panel of judges to recieve prizes. These "winning" entries will be announced by October 17, 2008.

    It Isn't a Glitch!?!

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 29, 2008, 2:40 AM

    INSPIRED!

Have you heard about The Blues Stock Contest? It's been a long time since I've felt inspired, and this contest seems to have done it for me. Each contestant may enter up to 10 stock images, and I've entered 2 photos already. I'm looking for concepts for other entries... Both of the ones I entered already are skyscapes. I'd like to try something with a different twist. I hope I think of something good in the near future. It's not about winning so much as finding a mood and capturing it in my lens. Suggestions are welcome!
I unexpectedly discovered that I've become a senior member yesterday. (LOL - I thought it was a v6 glitch at first!!) I'm not yet sure what comes with being a senior. So far nothing is different at dA except for the little ` symbol by my name, the mention of it at the top of my user page, and a senior forum that is now visible. However, I appreciate it because I love dA, and I am grateful to the deviant powers that be for such a lovely surprise. Thank you!! ♥

    FEATURED ARTIST

Each time I update my journal I like to feature an artist that has used my stock in their art. This week's featured artist is...

~xav90: Javier Cascales is a talented artist in Spain. His gallery consists mostly of digital art ripe with dreamy images, but he also shows skills in colorful manga styles and traditional media. Check out his fanart to view some great visions of Harry Potter, The Simpsons, Disney, Pokemon, and more!

    v6

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 22, 2008, 6:20 AM

    DA: V6

Now that the journal mood issue has been resolved (Yay! I'm no longer "terrified!"), and since most of us have had time to test drive the new v6 design for dA, I'm curious to know what you think about it. I'm still troubled that I
